Start with the Material and Its Destination

“Industrial waste” is not a complete feed specification. Describe the material composition, physical form and largest incoming items. Then explain where the shredded output will go.

UNTHA’s buyer’s guide identifies input material dimensions, output particle requirements and throughput as important selection considerations. These are useful starting points for an inquiry, rather than evidence that a particular machine suits your waste stream. UNTHA buyer’s guide to shredding technology

Attach photographs with a scale reference and identify which information is measured or estimated.

Turn the Inquiry into an Acceptance Checklist

Before comparing prices, ask each bidder to complete the same requirements table.

TopicWhat the proposal should state
Accepted feedMaterial types, dimensions, condition and excluded items
Required outputIntended downstream use and measurable acceptance criteria
ThroughputMeasurement location, time basis and feed conditions
Test materialWho supplies it and how it represents the intended operation
Test recordsMeasurements, samples, settings and interruptions to be recorded
Supply boundaryIncluded machine, auxiliaries, controls and customer-side work

List known contaminants and uncertain material components for the manufacturer’s review. Obtain written confirmation of acceptable feed and required preparation before arranging a trial.

Define What “Tonnes per Hour” Means

Ask whether quoted throughput refers to incoming feed or acceptable outgoing material. Specify whether the time basis includes interruptions and how recirculated or rejected material is counted.

For procurement discussions:

Average accepted-output rate = mass meeting the agreed output criteria ÷ agreed measurement period

This is a proposed reporting basis, not a machine rating. The parties should agree on the weighing method, test duration and treatment of downtime before testing.

Request both the result and the conditions behind it. A capacity figure without a defined test basis is difficult to use in a purchase decision.

Make the Output Requirement Measurable

Ask how the bidder will assess output size and consistency. Record the sampling method and the treatment of oversize material.

If the quotation specifies a screen opening, ask how that specification relates to the required output and how compliance will be checked.

Where the next process has its own feed requirements, include those requirements in the RFQ. Do not treat a shredder-only demonstration as acceptance of a complete recycling line.

Record the Trial Conditions

A proposed trial report should identify:

  • The test batch and any preparation before feeding.
  • The machine configuration and operating settings.
  • Input mass, accepted output and other collected fractions.
  • Elapsed time, interruptions and reasons for stopping.
  • Output samples and the agreed assessment results.
  • Differences between the trial and the planned site operation.

Ask the supplier to state which conclusions the trial supports and which requirements remain unverified. Document any agreed limitations before final equipment selection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can motor power alone establish throughput?

No. UNTHA describes drive selection in relation to material, required throughput and operating conditions. Request a proposal tied to the actual duty rather than comparing motor power alone. UNTHA XR-RC technical overview

Does one successful trial prove suitability for every material mix?

The trial report should identify the material tested. Ask the manufacturer to assess any different feed composition or condition before extending the conclusion.

Should a quotation include conveyors and separation equipment?

Require an explicit scope list. Mark feeding, discharge, separation and control interfaces as included, excluded or supplied by others.

Can I request an initial review without all the measurements?

Yes. Provide the available records and identify the gaps. Ask which missing information prevents a firm selection or performance commitment.

Confirm the Manufacturing and Supply Responsibilities

Our manufacturing and equipment supply capabilities page explains how manufacturing sources and project responsibilities are identified.

For a shredder inquiry, request written confirmation of supplier availability, actual manufacturing source and included scope. Do not assume that a general fabrication capability establishes a specific shredder model or performance commitment.
