Direct Answer

Before ordering a replacement ultrafiltration membrane module, identify the installed module and request written confirmation of compatibility. Provide the equipment model, module identification, available drawings and connection details.

For a new water treatment package, include module removal, replacement access and spare-parts documentation in the RFQ. A description such as “modular” or “removable” should be supported by drawings and a maintenance procedure.

Application Scenarios

For remote work sites, temporary camps and distributed water-supply projects, plan how a replacement module will reach the site, who will install it and what equipment will be available for the work.

For facilities with an existing treatment package, start with the installed equipment records. Avoid selecting a replacement solely because its photograph or nominal capacity looks similar.

These are procurement considerations, not claims of completed projects or a guarantee that a particular module suits every application.

Selection Factors

Identify the membrane and module separately

The documented integrated treatment configuration discussed here uses hydrophilically modified PVDF hollow-fiber ultrafiltration membranes with modular, removable assemblies.

That description identifies the membrane technology and assembly concept. It does not establish that different suppliers’ modules are interchangeable.

Ask the supplier to confirm the exact replacement model and explain any required changes to supports, connections or operating arrangements. Do not describe a PVDF module as ceramic membrane equipment.

Request a maintenance-access drawing

Ask for a drawing showing the space required to remove and install the proposed assembly.

The drawing review should address the removal direction, access route, surrounding equipment and any tools or lifting arrangements specified by the supplier. Confirm who provides those items.

For containerized or skid-mounted equipment, review access in the proposed installed layout, including site pipework and structures around the package.

Define the replacement procedure

Request the supplier’s procedure for taking the relevant equipment out of service, removing the assembly, installing the replacement and returning the system to operation.

Do not assume the remaining equipment can continue supplying water during replacement. Ask the supplier to identify the proposed operating arrangement and any interruption that the project must accommodate.

Cleaning, preservation and storage instructions should come from the confirmed module documentation. Do not substitute a generic chemical recipe or a universal storage period.

This table is a procurement framework. It does not define a standard spare-parts package.

Compare Spare-Parts Offers on a Defined Basis

Ask suppliers to separate membrane assemblies, associated replacement parts, tools, documentation and any installation support in their offers.

Request part numbers and a clear statement of what each quoted item includes. If an alternative module is proposed, require the compatibility assessment and any necessary system changes to be stated before purchase.

Determine spare quantities from the project’s maintenance plan and operating needs. Do not apply a fixed percentage without a project-specific basis.

RFQ Checklist

Include the following in your enquiry:

  • Project location and equipment identification.
  • Installed membrane module model and photographs of its labels.
  • Available drawings, dimensions and connection details.
  • Raw-water information and current operating records, where available.
  • Required treatment capacity and water-supply needs during maintenance.
  • Site access, available personnel and handling equipment.
  • Existing spare-parts list.
  • Proposed storage conditions.
  • Requested replacement instructions and return-to-service checks.
  • A list of information still awaiting confirmation.

For a new integrated package: Customized based on raw water conditions, required capacity and project requirements.

For an existing package, confirm compatibility with the installed equipment before ordering replacement modules.

FAQ

Are all PVDF ultrafiltration modules interchangeable?

Do not assume so. Confirm the replacement against the installed module specification, mechanical connections and operating requirements.

Does “removable module” mean maintenance access is already adequate?

No. Ask for the removal arrangement and review it against the actual installed layout.

How many spare modules should be ordered?

Request a recommendation based on the project’s maintenance plan, equipment configuration and operating needs. This guide does not prescribe a universal quantity.

Can the system keep supplying water during module replacement?

That must be confirmed for the selected configuration. Ask the supplier to explain the operating arrangement and any required interruption.
